Thanks to all of the people who supported our campaign. Unfortunately, we were washed over in a national political wave that was very unfriendly to Democrats. I want to make a few points to put some lip stick on this corpse.

First, is that this was not about the quality of the campaign or the work our volunteers and supporters did. We could have doubled the budget and doubled all of the time we put in and still not have won in this environment.

Second, as democrats and progressives, we can thank our lucky stars that all of the state wide offices and a US Senator are not joining us, as they surely would have had they been on the ballot in this cycle.

Third, elections are just one way we are all working for justice and social change. Win, lose or draw elections provide us with an opportunity to discuss our issues and develop our skills. It’s certainly not the end of the world to lose one and there are lots of avenues we have to continue our work. That includes future election cycles.

Fourth, the most likely response of our political leaders within the Democratic Party (and the Republican Party for that matter), progressive interest groups, the legislature and the executive branch will be to run to the right. That calls on all of us to redouble our efforts in whatever work we are doing to swim against that tide.

Again, thanks to all who supported our campaign.
